suddenly everywhere: split-back

La fente dans le dos

I’ve started noticing this trend in patterns recently, especially in the new spring and summer collections. The split-backs are having a moment. The proof in pictures.

J’ai remarqué cette tendance grandissante récemment, en particulier dans les nouvelles collections printemps été. Les fentes dans le dos sont tendance. La preuve par l’image.

  • Pompom Summer 16: Red Bud Isle – Courtney Cedarholm
  • Shibui Spring/Summer 16: Aurora – Shelly Anderson
  • Francis – Olga Buraya-Kefelian: an older pattern but right on trend / un patron plus ancien mais pile dans la tendance
  • Knit Picks : Split Back Tank –  Allison Griffith (free/gratuit)
  • Vogue Knitting Early Spring 16 : High Low Tunic – Julie Turjoman
  • Knit Picks Aura collection: Chilla – Amanda Schwabe

It is a good choice over light summer dresses or to show a hint of skin during the warm season. Do you like it? Don’t hesitate to share other patterns of the kind, and let me know if a split-back top is your To Knit list for the summer.

  1. I love the split back, and you’ve done a fabulous round up on them! I don’t know if I’ll knit one, I wonder if they are perhaps a bit trendy? Hmm. They do look good.

    • Thank you Julie. I see what you mean by too trendy maybe – cute now but would we wear it a lot? I like the Aurora though: you can wear it both ways, open in the back or the front.
